Wow, I am back on a regular annual schedule. As I posted last August on my New Year blog post in 2010, my resolution tended to follow a school year instead of a regular year. Not any more. I didn't have many goal with that post, but life sure has changed since.
August one year to date, my wonderful wife and I, with our business partner opened our own gym. Plenty of details on this blog about that already, so won't bore you with detail. This new directions in life means I can now focus on growing the business and still get a simple climbing workout while working.
While my new business means no extended eight summer vacations anymore, it does open the opportunity to visit and explore some East Java cliffs that were just far enough to be out of reach for two day trips. It also means I can concentrate on some new routes development for Indonesia's growing climbing community.
My big goal this year still focuses on establishing a new independent route on Spikul. 1200 vertical feet of climbing of crimps, seams, and hopeful cracks. Considering how little has been done on this great formation, an independent line should be easy, but my alternate goal to establish a all free route that uses mostly clean pro and few bolts. (I'll bolt the belays to make rappelling easier)
My partners, and sometimes me, have also been cleaning some cliff near Surabaya and those should be ready to bolt some fun new sport routes on now. Of course, the rain has set in, so I may have to wait awhile. At least I can train in the gym while the weather isn't cooperating.
This year, I'll turn 40 and have given myself a personal goal of 40 on 40. Not anew concept, just 40 pitches of climbing on my birthday.
Looking forward to another great year.
