Climbing Commercial Citi Bank

Peter Beal, at his blog  once again lives in his Boulder bubble. His rant, about a Citibank ad that features Katie Brown and Alex Honnold and how climbers who work money are selling out. His view, people earning money with climbing are destroying the sport, of course, he does still manage to charge for his book on how to boulder better.

He writes, "I thought to myself, this is interesting. Since when did climbing become so capitalistic? Obviously climbers have "sold out" before. We all have to some degree."

Beal speak about the big bad bank, the economic decline, and ask whether it's worth risking our lives in this sport, keep in mind he primarily boulders, if our sport become some commercialized.

Personally, I found this commercial to be quite good for the a climbing clip. I use a credit card from to time, mine is with USAA and I even use my miles for free trips when the opportunity comes up. Here in Indonesia, I have local Citi Bank Credit card too. Makes dealing with the exchange rate much easier.

To Beal I say, "get over yourself." You publish a book on how to boulder better and sell it. (making money on climbing and convincing other to try it)You write a blog attacking how easy it is to enter the sport, how climbers should be more independents, and why the climbing community should fight consumerism, all this while living in the comforts of your Boulder residence.

For those of you who haven't seen the commercial:

  1. Hilarious Eman! My last name is Beal and I have never written a blog attacking how easy it is for climbers to enter the sport. You are welcome to visit my Boulder mansion anytime of course. The helipad is usually kept free of snow this time of year. :)
